The Research Office of Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi was established in June 2010 to build staff capacity in research and co-ordinate and manage the growing number of research projects.
All research conducted by Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi is underpinned by our values and philosophies. We view our research undertakings as having the potential to be life-changing for Māori, and to impact on New Zealand society as a whole and the global community.
Our high-quality research is applied to ensure our practices are well-informed and produce excellent outcomes. It addresses key gaps and priorities with the aim of improving our daily lives and informing policy for Māori.
Our research strength lies in our critical mass of qualified academic Māori Doctorates – the most of any tertiary institution in the world – while our knowledge of all things Māori guarantees our credentials to conduct research grounded in Māori ways. We value collaborative work that engages us with our colleagues at other learning institutions and with communities locally, nationally and internationally.
Our vision is to provide a supportive professional environment for current and future Māori researchers. We are committed to building the capacity and capability of our staff to undertake rigorous and robust research, and we benchmark ourselves against competitive world standards of research excellence to ensure we are performing at the highest level.
