WE FORMALLY OPEN TE WHARE WĀNANGA O AWANUIĀRANGI
Finally, Tohunga Te Hau Tutua, Pou Temara and Pumi Taituha carry out a dawn ritual to formally open Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi in Whakatāne on 10 February 1992.
The modest facilities were two relocatable classrooms, a small administration building and toilet block.
Programmes include a Certificate in Māori Studies and a one year diploma in Māori Leadership.
Four years later, the government confirms we have met the legal requirements of a Wānanga and we are registered on 1 January 1997
