2020 September Graduation Update

2020 graduation ceremony cancelled for Certificate, Bachelor’s degree and Masterate Graduands

The Council of Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi has made the decision to cancel our 2020 graduation ceremony for all Masters, undergraduate and pre-degree programmes.

Doctoral Graduands will be contacted shortly with more information in relation to conferment opportunities for your degree.

We recognise that the graduation ceremony is a time for tauira and their whānau to come together to celebrate their hard work and achievements, and that the graduation ceremony being cancelled is disappointing.

However, the current COVID-19 environment means that planning and carrying out our normal graduation ceremony is, unfortunately, not feasible.

This decision had to be made due to the current COVID-19 restrictions on event numbers and the potential for Alert Levels to change at short notice.

This decision was not made lightly. As an organisation, we had hoped to be able to acknowledge all our 2020 graduates on Friday 2 October, the postponement date that was originally advertised.

However, given the continued uncertainty we face since COVID-19 has reappeared in the community, our priority is ensuring that kaimahi, tauira and their whānau are kept safe from the risk that COVID-19 presents to public health and safety.

Certificate, Bachelor’s degree and Masterate Graduands (Levels 1–9):

• For those tauira who were eligible to graduate at the April ceremony, your tohu will be sent to you by mail within the next two weeks.
• For those tauira who have completed their tohu since April 2020, your tohu will be conferred in Council and then sent directly to your home address. This process may take up to two months.

At this stage we are still planning to hold our 2021 graduation ceremony. As part of our planning for this ceremony, we are looking at options for recognising our 2020 Masters, undergraduate and pre-degree graduates, should the COVID-19 environment allow us to do so. We will be in touch with you early next year regarding this.

Refunds

All Certificate, Diploma, Degree and Masterate Levels 1–9 graduands who paid a deposit for their regalia will receive a refund.
