COVID-19 response: Tuesday 9 June
Yesterday afternoon, our Prime Minister announced that we are in Alert Level 1 as of today, Tuesday 9 June 2020.
This is a significant milestone and is due to the collective efforts of everyone in Aotearoa. Well done and thank you to all of you for contributing to the COVID-19 elimination efforts in Aotearoa. And a special thank you to all our tauira for your support as we navigated our way through this unchartered territory.
Please find below some detail on what Alert Level 1 means for Awanuiārangi.
Returning to ‘business as usual’
- The expectation is that normal operations will resume – as they were before the lockdown — from Monday 15 June. This includes all onsite operations.
- While Aotearoa is under Alert Level 1 right now, we are giving our tauira and kaimahi a few more days to transition to the new Alert Level and so arrangements can be made to fully return to campus on 15 June.
- The only difference to ‘normal’ under Alert Level 1, is the need to maintain contact tracing and safe hygiene protocols, as outlined further below.
COVID-19 health and safety protocols
- You still need to keep to a single point of entry on our campuses and you will still need to sign in and out from the Main Reception using the free EVA QR code system, or manually.
- We still need to maintain safe hygiene – this includes washing hands regularly.
- We do not need to practice physical distancing.
- If you’re sick, stay home. If you have cold or flu symptoms, call your Doctor or Healthline and get tested if required
- Our tikanga practices can resume.
- Read the ‘Golden Rules’ for everyone at Alert Level 1 here.
Delivery of programmes
- The expectation is that most of you will return to campus and teaching and learning resumes as normal.
- Some programmes may retain some online teaching and learning in Alert Level 1, including ensuring resources are available online. Tauira are to check with their kaiako if this relates to them.
- Kaiako are expected to communicate programme delivery intentions under Alert Level 1 with tauira this week.
- If you are still unable to physically return to campus (for example if you are sick), please talk to your kaiako or Manager so alternate plans can be made.
- Delivery of programmes on marae and alternate sites, and noho and overnight noho, are also expected to recommence under Alert Level 1. Timetabling will be communicated to tauira by kaiako and/or marae coordinators.
Campus facilities
- From Monday 15 June, opening hours for our campus facilities will resume as normal – 8.30am to 4.30pm. Until then, our library and Awhi Tauira services will be available from 9am to 3pm, as communicated previously.
- Books can still be ordered online and will be sent via courier. A ‘click and collect’ service will still be available at our Whakatāne campus from Main Reception for those that require this service. For any Library enquiries, please email: library@wananga.ac.nz
- Ipos Café will re-open by Wednesday 17June.
External visitors during Alert Level 1
- Visitors, including whānau and children of kaimahi and tauira, are allowed back on campus.
- All visitors must still sign in and out at the Main Reception.
