Dr. Shonelle Wana is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi.
Her doctoral thesis examined the characteristics of Māori women leaders and pathways to leadership, resulting in the creation of The Moko Wahine Framework, designed to support and nurture Māori women in leadership roles.
With extensive institutional knowledge of Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi, Dr. Wana brings both academic expertise and lived experience to her role. She provides academic support to postgraduate students and is an Associate Investigator on a Marsden Research Award granted by the Royal Society. She has published works on women’s leadership and Indigenous futurism, contributing to the broader discourse on Indigenous empowerment.
Dr. Wana also serves as a panellist for CureKids Te Rōpū Rangahau Hauora. Beyond academia, she plays a key role in governance, providing leadership while also serving as a ringa raupā dedicated to her marae and iwi.
