Te Tohu Paetahi Ako: Bachelor of Education - Teaching
I’ve always been passionate about teaching. I’d worked in Kohanga Reo for more than 10 years, and I felt it was time to up-skill and evolve. When I looked into the amazing programmes at Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi and studied the course outlines, I knew where I wanted to be.
During the enrolment process I felt as though I would be supported, guided and nurtured throughout my study at Awanuiārangi. The experience has been absolutely amazing. I most appreciate the practical experience of teaching, and I feel I have come away well equipped with the knowledge to succeed in this career path.
I’ve grown both personally and professionally through the degree journey. My world has definitely evolved. I’ve developed the skills to be the best teacher I can be. My career prospects improved immensely and I’m grateful for the new opportunities that flooded my way before I even graduated.
In April 2019, I took up a Rūmaki Reo primary school teaching position, and I’m also facilitating professional development sessions for Te Kõhanga Reo. After I’ve completed my Teachers Registration I will begin a Masters degree in Indigenous Studies.
