Te Pōkaitahi Reo (Rumaki, Reo Rua) (Te Kaupae 2)

Learn basic te reo Māori with this level 2 Māori language course for beginners.
This level 2 programme is for learners who have a basic understanding and ability in the use of te reo Māori and want to communicate with little support in familiar everyday contexts, and in Māori environments where they feel comfortable.

Learners will study basic Te Reo Māori vocabulary and grammatical structures at a foundational level which will consist of the following:

 

  • Māori alphabet 
  • Foundation level language command 
  • Dialectal difference 
  • Language etiquette 
  • Foundational level Karakia, waiata, mihi 
  • Kīwaha – idioms 
  • Whakataukī / whakatauāki – proverbs

Course Type:  Core

Description:  From this paper, tauira will be able to use te reo Māori vocabulary and grammatical structures at a foundation level as an expression of mana tangata. The content areas are:  

  • Language structures to communicate genealogical links (pakeke, kaumātua, tīpuna, mātua tīpuna) 

REO202 Mana Whenua 2

Course Type: Core

Description:From this paper, tauira will be able to use foundation level reo Māori to express connections to the land and the environment, prominent places and people of the area, as an expression of mana whenua. The content areas are: 

  • Language structures to communicate origins and links to (whenua, moana, awa, waka)
  • Language structures to communicate stories of a particular (whenua, moana, awa, waka) 

REO203 Mana Reo 2

Course Type: Core

Description: From this paper, tauira will be able to apply technical knowledge of foundation level reo Māori in selected contexts and develop an emerging respect for te reo as an expression of mana reo. The content areas are: 

  • Deliver karakia in accordance with tikanga practice  

REO204 Mana Ao Tūroa 2

Course Type: Core

Description: From this paper, tauira will be able to use foundation level te reo Māori to achieve tasks in specified contexts as an expression of mana ao tūroa. The content areas are: 

  • Instructional language (family, work, and community context), relevant vocabulary (family, work, and community context)
  • Relevant language structures (family, work, and community context)
