You’ve started your journey—now it's time to elevate it with a level 3 certificate in te reo Māori at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi.
Te Pōkaitahi Reo (Rumaki, Reo Rua) (Te Kaupae 3) is designed for learners who already have a foundation in te reo Māori. You’ll expand your vocabulary, refine grammar, and explore cultural practices.
This intermediate reo course, supports learners to engage in longer meaningful conversations, understand tikanga, and grow cultural knowledge and fluency.
Following on from the level 2 programme, you will develop your speaking, listening, and writing skills for everyday and formal settings whether on the marae, at home with whānau or in your workplace.

Description: From this paper, tauira will be able to use te reo Māori at an intermediate level to show an understanding of their connections to the land and the environment, prominent places, people, histories and stories, as an expression of mana whenua. The content areas are:
- Māori alphabet
- Intermediate language
- Dialectal difference
- Language etiquette
- Local narratives
- Narratives of the genealogical links to relevant landmarks
- Genealogical links to ancestors and chiefs
REO303 Mana Reo 3
Course Type: Core
Description: From this paper, tauira will be able to use te reo at an intermediate-level in selected contexts to develop a growing knowledge base of, and an emerging respect for te reo, as an expression of mana reo. The content areas are:
