NUR500 Te Ao Māori 1
Course Type: Core
- Description: This course aims to develop tauira understanding of hauora from a te ao Māori worldview, fostering the ability to analyse and apply concepts of wellbeing within culturally appropriate frameworks. Through the integration and application of te reo Māori, āhuatanga, and tikanga Māori, tauira will enhance their cultural competence and develop the foundational skills necessary to engage effectively and respectfully with oranga tangata in diverse contexts.
NUR501 Mātai Hauora Health Science
Course Type: Core
- Description: This course aims to develop tauira an in-depth understanding of the structure and function of selected body systems, integrating āhuatanga and tikanga Māori o te tinana to support holistic nursing practice. Tauira will critically engage with the scientific principles underlying nursing assessment and evidence-based practice. They will apply pharmacological concepts and perform accurate introductory medication calculations to ensure safe, culturally responsive, and effective medication administration
NUR502 Nēhitanga - He Tīmatanga, Nursing Practice 1
Course Type: Core
- Description: This course aims to develop tauira foundational knowledge of the Tangata Raukotahi kaupapa Māori model alongside other relevant health models, within the context of beginning nursing practice. Tauira will critically engage with the fundamental principles and practices of nursing care, fostering the ability to apply culturally responsive approaches in diverse healthcare settings.

- Description: This course aims to develop tauira understanding of hauora from a te ao Māori perspective, with a focus on enhancing culturally responsive relationships and contributing to lifelong professional learning within whānau, hāpori, and community settings. Through the applied use of te reo Māori, āhuatanga, and tikanga Māori, tauira will strengthen their cultural competence and develop the skills necessary to engage respectfully and effectively in oranga whānau contexts.
NUR505 Nēhitanga Nursing Practice 2
Course Type: Core
- Description: This course aims to support tauira in the foundational application of the Tangata Raukotahi Kaupapa Māori model within the context of caring for older whānau. Tauira will begin to integrate evidencebased nursing knowledge and clinical skills into practice, with a focus on holistic and culturally responsive care. The course also provides opportunities to develop and demonstrate effective communication and introductory clinical skills relevant to mental health and wellbeing in the care of kaumātua.

Course Type: Core
- Description: This course aims to support tauira to extend and apply specialised knowledge of hauora from a te ao Māori perspective. Tauira will critically examine the social determinants of health and explore preventative, holistic, and therapeutic strategies that support Māori health and wellbeing. Through engagement with te reo, āhuatanga, and tikanga Māori, tauira will develop the ability to apply culturally grounded approaches to the management of long-term conditions in both clinical and community contexts.
NUR601 Taunakitanga mō te Nēhitanga Evidence for Practice.

- Description: Tauira will utilise the Tangata Raukotahi Kaupapa Māori model to source, analyse, critique, and apply a range of evidence—including mātauranga Māori and rangahau—to inform culturally responsive decision-making in health care contexts.
NUR602 Tiaki i te Whānau me Ngā Mate Tautini Nursing Whānau with Long Term Conditions.
Course Type: Core
- Description: This course aims to develop tauira capability to apply nursing knowledge, clinical skills, and the principles of the Tangata Raukotahi Kaupapa Māori model to the care of individuals with common long-term conditions. Tauira will critically examine these conditions within clinical contexts and demonstrate an understanding of the Nursing Council of New Zealand's standards of competence for the registered nurse.

- Description: This course aims to support tauira to extend and apply specialised knowledge of hauora from a te ao Māori perspective. Tauira will explore and evaluate innovative approaches to addressing health inequities in hauora Māori. Through the application of te reo, āhuatanga, and tikanga Māori, tauira will develop culturally responsive skills to support the management of long-term conditions.
NUR604 Tiaki i te Whānau me Ngā Mate Hinengaro Nursing Whānau with Mental Health Conditions
Course Type: Core
- Description: This course aims to support tauira to integrate evidence-based practice and the principles of the Tangata Raukotahi Kaupapa Māori model into mental health and addiction nursing. Tauira will apply cultural and scientific knowledge to inform assessment, clinical decision-making, and therapeutic interventions that are responsive to the needs of whānau experiencing mental health and addiction challenges.
NUR605 Tiaki i te Whānau i ngā Māuiui Hapori Nursing Whānau in Community Contexts.

- Description: This course aims to enable tauira to apply health models and Kaupapa Māori approaches, including the principles of the Tangata Raukotahi model, to health promotion and education in primary healthcare settings. Tauira will develop the capability to deliver culturally responsive care that supports whānau wellbeing through evidence-informed and community-based practices.

Course Type: Core
- Description: This course aims to develop tauira’s broad and critical understanding of hauora from a te ao Māori perspective. Tauira will apply and extend their knowledge of te reo, āhuatanga, and tikanga Māori to critically examine the historical, cultural, and socio-political influences that shape Māori health and wellbeing in Aotearoa.
NUR701 Tiaki i te Whānau i ngā Ōhotata Māuiui Nursing Whānau in Acute Medical/Surgical and Mental Health Nursing
Course Type: Core
- Description: This course aims to develop tauira’s critical application of the principles of Tangata Raukotahi Kaupapa Māori model alongside advanced nursing science knowledge within acute medical/surgical and psychiatric nursing practice settings. Tauira will demonstrate advanced critical thinking skills and the capability to plan, implement, and evaluate holistic nursing care in complex acute general and psychiatric nursing environments.
NUR702 Whakawhiti ki te Nēhitanga Ngaio Transition to Professional Practice
Course Type: Core
- Description: As the capstone professional practice course of the programme, this course aims to enable tauira to integrate and demonstrate advanced competence in the principles of the Tangata Raukotahi Kaupapa Māori model alongside the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) Standards of Competence for Registered Nurses. Tauira will critically consolidate their knowledge, skills, and professional judgement to confidently prepare for nursing registration and transition into applying into the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
