This section provides a description of the Entry Standards and requirements for Ngā Mana Whakairo a Toi: Bachelor of Māori Performing Arts degree.
Programme entry requirements:
Standard Admission
Entry is open to applicants who are:
- At least 18 years or older, and have either;
- Successfully completed a relevant Level 4 certificate; or
- NCEA Level 3 as described at the time of enrolment; or
Non-Standard Admission
Approved Secondary Kura Cohort tauira must meet the following conditions prior to enrolment in the programme:
- Tauira are enrolled in an approved secondary kura; and
- are in Year 12 or 13 of that kura; and
- have demonstrated experience in kapa haka; and
- have written kura and parental approval to participate
- an agreed delivery plan has been signed by both Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuārangi and the kura.
Special Admission
Special Admission may be granted, where a tauira is over the age of 20 years at the start of the programme and they can provide sufficient evidence of work experience, skill, education, background knowledge, commitment and support to successfully undertake the programme of study. Tauira must provide a portfolio of evidence to support their application. Special admission may be granted at the discretion of the relevant Head of School or Regional Director, NPC or designated nominee. Such applicants may be required to successfully complete a bridging or tertiary introductory programme as a condition of entry into higher level programmes.
Credit provision for recognised programme:
Applicants who have verified evidence of completion of the Ngā Mahi a Rehia Manu Korihi Level 5 certificate may gain year two entry into the Māori Performing Arts courses on this programme, with cross-credit for the year one courses. Entry into the reo Māori courses will be on the basis of evidence for a cross-credit application or through a Recognised Prior Learning Process within the Wānanga.
Note: the Western Institute of Technology, Diploma in Māori Performing Arts (Teaching) is ineligible for credit towards the Bachelor of Māori Performing Arts at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi
