Māori health workforce training and development project
As part of the Te Aratiatia ki te Hauora programme, there has been a strong focus on training and upskilling tangata whaiora with the skills and resources needed to build community resilience.
Te Aratiatia ki te Hauora has sponsored two cohorts of tangata whaiora to attend training wānanga at Awanuiārangi, as well as various other training initiatives, including:
Te Rau Puawai Programme – Massey University
Participants have had the opportunity to join Te Rau Puawai, a programme operating for more than 25 years. It is one of the most successful academic support programmes in the country, having supported over 400 health workers to enter the Māori mental health workforce.
Our relationship with Te Rau Puawai has enabled the participants to attend academic and research forums, presentations and symposia, and connect with other Massey University students. This partnership has been incredibly beneficial, with one of our tangata whaiora now part of the Te Rau Puawai programme, pursuing a degree in social work with the support of a scholarship.
