Wairangahau

A health and hauora collaboration between Te Aratiatia ki te Hauora (Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi) and Wai Research (Te Whānau o Waipereia Trust) is dedicated to supporting knowledge translation, research, and community engagement.

This initiative, Ngā Kete Rangahau, has delivered a series of impactful research events and resources over the past two years, each designed to foster deeper understanding of a range of topical issues, including research ethics, data utilisation, methods and methodologies, and artificial intelligence (AI).

The most recent event was designed to explore Māori perspectives of AI and how this technology is shaping the future of knowledge systems and the implications for Māori research and data sovereignty. Speakers at the event included: Professor Te Kani Kingi, Director of Te Aratiatia ki te Hauora and Chair of the Waipereira Ethics Committee; Dr. Denise Newmann, Research Fellow; Lee Timutimu, Māori AI Specialist; Thomas Clarke, Māori Business Development Specialist; and Hector Kawai, Wai Research Director.

To encourage wider community participation, Ngā Kete Rangahau events are free of charge with additional support provided for limited number of tangata whaiora to attend. Participants also receive a certificate of attendance to acknowledge their engagement, emphasising the value placed on accessibility and inclusion.

Video recordings of research symposia, and a forthcoming publication that compiling presentations and discussions, will be made available in 2025.
