CAMPUS UPDATES: COVID-19 POLICY AND PLANS TO RE-OPEN

In a recent update, we acknowledged that a COVID-19 vaccination policy had been introduced by the Council and Leadership of Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi - before many industry mandates were scrapped.

In line with the Government changes, Awanuiārangi has decided there is no requirement to have a vaccine pass to be on-campus at any delivery sites.

However, if you are required by Government policy to have proof of vaccination, you must be able to produce this. For example, nursing tauira learning on-site at a hospital may be required to show proof of vaccination.

While Awanuiārangi has decided not to move forward with its COVID-19 vaccination policy, some organisations or delivery sites we work alongside may continue to maintain theirs. We ask our kaimahi and tauira to please ensure that they are following the guidelines of those organisations if you are interacting with them.

With this update in mind, and our sights set on the future, we continue to plan for a re-opening of our three campuses and additional delivery sites. The start of Semester Two on 8 July 2022 is when we are generally expecting most tauira to return to site for learning.

However, the wellbeing of our Awanuiārangi whānau is, and remains, our top priority. We do encourage our tauira please get in touch with your kaiako or another member of kaimahi that you trust if you do have some concerns about returning. Kaimahi have been encouraged to do the same.

Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis when it comes to returning to campuses.

The beginning of Semester Two is still some weeks away. As it currently stands, Aotearoa remains at the ‘Orange’ setting of the traffic light system. For a reminder about what those rules look like, please go here.

At Awanuiārangi, we encourage you to take measures to look after yourselves where possible, such as keeping up good hand hygiene.

COVID-19 is still in our community, and once we re-open campuses, it may come onto site too. At any stage, with wellbeing at the front of mind, we may increase measures to protect people. This may include increasing mask use or implementing physical distancing.
